January had the first of nine monthly meetings at the Stickley Museum which are for social and various guest speakers on different topics. The January speaker was Ric Timmers, author of the Corrosion Chronicles in Porscheforus.
February was the first time for registration to all driver education (DE) events for the year. This allowed members to plan their DE events a lot earlier for the entire year. The club had a luncheon event for the Lunar New Year to welcome the year of the Snake at Dan Zai in Green Brook. There was a New Member Gathering at Paul Miller Porsche which had a great turn out. The monthly meeting had Aaron Ambrosino, PCA President. He talked about what happens at the PCA executive committee and the PCA National Office. February also had a Track Safety Equipment tech season at Stable Energies new location in Saddle Brook. The Mid-Winter DE event had a morning event for instructors followed by a DE driver seminar for drivers in the afternoon. The speaker was Eric Filgueiras, he is a FIA Silver Rated Racing driver with experience and winning level pedigree in Open Wheel, Prototype, Stock Car and Sports Car racing.
March had the first Swap Meet at Powertech which was a great place to socialize and sell or buy interesting items for Porsche cars and memorabilia. The Spring Concours Workshop was also held in March with a theme of “Back to Basics” where new members could learn from the seasoned folks in the club. The monthly meeting was from John Paterek and his wife Donna, showed clips of many projects they have undertaken over the past 45 years. Paul Miller Porsche had a technical session of the Carrera GT at their new East Hanover location. Jack Daniels Porsche also had a tech season on the Porsche 992.2 Hybrid vehicles. March ended the month with a Porsche and Pizza event a Kinchley’s Tavern in Ramsey.
April 5 & 6 was the first DE for the year at Lightning in south Jersey, The month ended with the annual Car Control Clinic at the Meadowlands Sports Complex. This event is always full and a lot of fun. This event had a slalom course, a braking exercise and two skid pads {right and left) which was wetted down by the East Rutherford Fire Department.
May started off the month with the annual concours event at Paterek Brothers with great food and information on preserving our Porsches. The following weekend was our trip to Mid-Ohio DE. After the Mid-Ohio DE event our monthly meeting had covered a National Classic Car Auction. Rudy Samsel took members through the current online and in person auction landscape and what to consider when selling or buying a Porsche at an auction. Then on the weekend we had our Welcome to the Club concours event which focused on great cars, great camaraderie with new members and old friends, and a great venue. Following the concours event there was a trek which went through the Cheshire Home complex and ended up at the Publick House in Chester. The month ended up with a DE at Thunderbolt.
June started the month off with a social event consisting of a F1 watch party at Edison Porsche with great food and some extra large screen TVs. The following Saturday was an autocross event at Pocono Raceway and on Sunday there was the Summer Sizzle rally which started at Paul Miller Porsche Service Center at East Hanover. This event started with a light breakfast and ended up with a full buffet lunch. Two weeks later we had our two day Lime Rock DE event. Then on the following Sunday Paul Miller Porsche had a Classic Concours event. Members were encouraged to show their 356, 914 and air cooled 911 cars to this event. Other models were also welcome.
July had the last event at PittRace in Wampum, PA as the race track has been sold and there will no longer be any track events. July also had the second autocross at Pocono Raceway.
In the beginning of August there was the Run to the Stone Wall rally that started at Paul Miller Service Center with a light breakfast and ended at the Inn at Glen Gardner for a hot buffet lunch. The monthly meeting had Meghan Gilmartin from Pirelli tires inform us on both FX and Domestic spec tires. September also had the PCA 70th Anniversary Celebration at the Franklin Steakhouse and Tavern in Fairfield, NJ. This event marks the 70th anniversary of the Porsche Club of America. This event featured a large display of memorabilia and a slide show of the history of our club. As usual the food was great. The following week was our two day advanced DE event at Watkins Glen. There was a Concours on the Campus event in Florham Park and the Octoberfest rally. This was unfortunately a conflicting date so that folks had to chose which event to partake. At the end of the month there was the final autocross at Pocono Raceway for the season.
In the beginning of October, we had our two day final Lightning DE event. The monthly meeting had Tom Gramenga from Bergen County Camera to inform the members about cameras and photography. On October 11th there was a New Member Gathering at Porsche Edison. On October 12th there was our annual Wine Tasting party at Paul Miller Porsche. As in the past they cleared out the show room for this event. This event is always a sell out with different wines and delicious food. Then at the end of the month was our final three day DE event at Virginia International Raceway. This was Thom Calabro’s last event as Track Chair for six years, thank you Thom.
At the start of November, we had the final rally of the year which was the Dreyfus Rally. The monthly meeting was the annual business meeting followed by Anthony Margaritondo’s 996/997 engine rebuild procedures. In the middle of the month, we had our annual Pine Barrens Off-Road Excursion for our four wheeled vehicles. This event started off with a light breakfast, then an excursion through the Pine Barrens, followed by a lunch and then a wild run through the sand pits. The following week was the final concours workshop at ID Signs with a great hot meal and lots of prizes.
We ended the year with another great Annual Holiday Party at The Highlawn in West Orange. Thank you Cindy & Tony Cristello for running this great event.
As you can see in the chart below, NNJR had another full year of events to keep the club on its toes. Remember, it is the people not the cars that make this club so great.
