Bob Michaelson and Ed Neighbour

Dear Fellow Club Members and Friends,

It is with the heaviest of hearts that I write this email to inform you of the passing of two of our oldest and most respected members. This has truly been one of the saddest weekends in our club’s history.

Bob Michaelson passed away yesterday morning. Bob has meant so much to this club and has served our membership in so many capacities. He served our club not once, but twice as President.  He also served twice in his career with NNJR as our Track Chair. When he was at the helm of our Drivers Education program he took on the time-consuming task of converting to an online registration system, and he then continued to serve for the past six years as our DE Registrar – a position he created, and then performed quietly behind the scenes to selflessly help the next three track chairs (myself included). Bob was also a Chief Instructor for our DE Program. I knew Bob to be an incredibly smart man with a great sense of humor and an infectious laugh. Perhaps the only thing more impressive than all of Bob’s accomplishments, though, was the extremely modest way in which Bob went about his business. He was a true gentleman, and he will be missed terribly by all of his friends in our club. Bob is survived by his wife, Terri.

A visitation will be held Wednesday from 4 to 8 PM at the Dangler, Lewis and Carey Funeral Home, 312 West Main Street. Funeral services will be 11 AM Thursday at the same location, followed by a “Bob Party” to celebrate his life at Bob and Terri’s home in Kinnelon (directions at the funeral). In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bob’s name to the MIT Scholarship Fund for Chemistry students.

Edward “Nick” Neighbour passed away on Friday. Ed was a long time member of NNJR, and active within the concours community especially. Ed was one of the most successful winners in our concours program history, campaigning his perfect black 1978 911SC to many trophies, including the NNJR Mulhern Award, which he won in 2002. He also served as one of the concours program’s most respected judges. A memorial visitation will be held 3-5 & 7-9pm on Tuesday, October, 6, 2015 at the Bermingham Funeral Home, 216 S. Main St., Wharton. A memorial service will be held 11am on Wednesday also at the funeral home. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations in Nick’s memory to St. Jude’s Hospital, 501 St Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 would be appreciated.

Please keep Bob, Ed, and their families in your prayers.

Very Truly Yours,

Drew Karpinski
President
