Presidents Letter September
By Tom Iervolino
Wow, it’s September already; my favorite time of year and I am sure I am not alone. There are so many activities you can do with NNJR all throughout the year, but in my mind, once September rolls around, we begin to enter a new phase. I always get the sense of renewed energy and look forward to the fun stuff in front of us.
DE is headed toward its last three events which IMHO are some of the best; Watkins – Advanced, Lightning and then everybody’s favorite, VIR. Besides being a phenomenal track, the VIR campus and area are just lovely at the end of October/early November. Concours is still going strong and who can resist the cool mornings and the spectacular light we get at the end of summer and the beginning of Fall. Rally is always fun especially when zipping around while the leaves are starting to change – and yes, the destination and the food. Great fun!
Then there is Social where Cindy and Tony kick our social events into high gear. Who can resist the Wine Tasting on Sunday September 25 at Paul Miller Porsche where the theme this year is “Vinos de España”. Did I mention the great food? Ah yes, the food selection paired with great wines. What kind of German car club would we be if we did not have an Ocktoberfest Trek? This will be held on Sunday October 23 departing from High Marques in Morristown to a “surprise” location for tasty German fare. Kind of seems like a number of our events revolve around good food, beer and wine. Did I mention how much our members appreciate wonderfully prepared food and the proper selection of wine? That being said our CIA Trek on Saturday November 12 is not to be missed. Yup, a trek to the CIA is back!! The CIA is doing large group luncheons on a somewhat limited basis and we were able to get a date.
“Dashing through the snow, in a Porsche Cabriolet,………”. That’s how the song goes, right?? I am sure Cindy and Tony are not wishing for snow on December 2 which is the date of our Holiday Party. Be sure to keep an eye out for the announcement of this party. Cindy and Tony have something up their sleeves that will surely delight us.
Ever want to get a taste of off roading? If so, be sure to sign up for our Off Road Excursion, which is usually held in the Pine Barrens and will be held on November 13.
In all this fun stuff, NNJR takes its social responsibility seriously. Being able to own Porsche’s and participate in so many sports car activities is a privilege that we should all feel very lucky to be able to do. So what can be better than doing what we can to give back and to help provide for those that need the help and financial support. So on December 14, we will hold our annual Charity Auction. Proceeds will go to Employment Horizons, a very worthy organization that provides comprehensive employment, training and job placement services for people with disabilities and other disadvantages in greater Morris County, NJ area. Please do what you can to provide car stuff, gift certificates, wine, food baskets, toys, etc….. Come on out on December 14 and take a chance at winning some great stuff. Who knows, you may win the Gold or Silver Tickets which are worth thousands of dollars to the winners. Besides, the whole scene and excitement of the evening is fun.
Well, that’s it for now and I hope to see you at any of our upcoming events.
