Concours Corner 2016
Concours Corner 2016
By Chris Erven and Jeff Erven, NNJR Concours Chairs
The infamous Paterek Brothers Concours workshop was held on Sunday, April 10 at John and Rays restoration shop. We would like to thank John and Donna Paterek, Ray and Pam Paterek, Andrew and Paul, the beautiful husky Paterek.
John provided a fabulous food spread with the help from Pam Paterek with her delicious homemade desserts and pulled pork provided by Mike Hainer who worked all night to prepare the pork. Mike also had his 1958 356A in the paint booth, Andrew had painted the beautiful light blue paint that morning. It was later learned that the paint could take up to 3 months to fully cure.
Donna staffed the cleaning product table. This year she set up at the workshop entrance so she could show off photo’s of her Grandson. This was an admission requirement; beautiful little baby.
The weather fully cooperated and John, Ray and Andrew dove into their presentations and expertise with vigor. Ray could not wait to show everyone his Gratiot Garage electric polisher. He went nuts on John and Donna’s green Mercedes convertible. He polished half the hood in about 15 minutes without working up a sweat. No ones knows who will do the other half. John prefers the hand polish method and is rumored to hire Andrew to do the other half.
Ray really was ambitious and proceeded to remove a clear rear fender guard from a red 911. The heat gun worked well to remove the decal but left the glue behind. John used a solvent to remove the glue. Again they only removed a small corner, so the owner has a lot more work to do.
Many Porsches in restoration stages or touch ups were on display. A member also showed his 1980 924 custom turbo with a full wide body conversion that John has completed years ago. It still looked great.
Attendance was very high (estimated 100) as usual for this very popular event. John and Ray have done this for 39 Years. A great time was had by all. Thanks again to the Paterek family and friends.
Next, a Do It Yourself Workshop will be held on Sunday, June 5, 12 to 4pm at Ray Catena Porsche, 123 S. Main St., Edison, NJ.
