Concours Corner
By Chris and Jeff Erven
The month of May was very quiet for NNJR concours workshops and events. The closest Porsche related event was the Cars and Croissants held at Paul Miller Porsche. This event drew many priceless Porsches as well as representations from what seemed to be every marque ever made. The Porsche dealer, as well as the adjacent Paul Miller Subaru dealer, must have held close to 800 cars. Police lined Route 46 and were admiring all of the beautiful cars.
Chris and I attended the Zone 1 event on Saturday, May 14 and we had a great time. Murray Kane and Jeff McFadyen did a fantastic job. We did not encounter any rain, only traffic that insisted on getting between Chris and me. My horn works fine but was ignored for the most part. There were close to 100 entries of high level competitors that were all very well prepared. We entered the people’s choice class but did not win. The competition blew us away.
Jeff and I also attended the car show and swap meet in Hershey, PA. We both entered the people’s choice concours but did not receive enough votes to win. Akemi and Murray Kane tied for first place in their class but were unfortunately bumped to second place since the other vehicle was older. Jeff is still working on his project 944 and scored a steal on 2 front fenders. But I still had to convince him to part with his money as it was a deal not to pass up. The fender has been worked, painted and installed. The body shop also buffed the car and brought up a nice shine. His car was previously presentable from about 20 feet away but has now been bumped up to presentable from 14 1/2 feet away. He also snuck into my garage when I was not looking and stole my stock 997 wheels. I tried to convince him that they would not fit but surprisingly they did. Now the car looks good enough that I can be seen in it.
