AUTOCROSS RESULTS

2017

September 9th-10th – Pocono Racetrack

Two sunny days on a long, fast, racetrack with some strategic gates was epic.  If you were there, i don’t need to tell you how great the track (and weather, and camaraderie) was. If you were not, you missed a fantastic event.  Speeds up to — and above 90 mph (felt like flying), a mile long course, challenging gates, and superb course layout (thanks to Rick and Nick, plus lots of help.  And continuous racing with almost no glitches, aside form early morning nightmares.  A treat that we must revisit.

Thank you to all the volunteers who worked to prepare, set up, care for equipment, set the course, and slave over hot computers.  We all truly appreciate it.

Since i need to fly off, I’ll be brief and maybe come back with photos and more info. But here are links to the results: (please note that the PAXes are not official — they are merely rough estimates that incrementally scale the Porsche classes.  FUN and O are 1.000 since they have a random mix of cars).

April 2nd AX: (season opener)

I heard a lot of happy people at the end of the day – pretty solid weather and lots of fun.  I hope you are among the happy participants.

Thank you to all the volunteers who worked to prepare, set up, care for equipment, set the course, and slave over hot computers.  We all truly appreciate it.

IMPORTANT NOTES:  You cannot compare SCCA and PCA paxes.  They are different scales and simply do not compare. I have omitted SCCA classes from the PAX results.  I found a number of errant times between 37 sec and 44 seconds. Despite the “best” being assigned to me, i deleted these timing irregularities. There may still be a few errors – if so let me know.

Here are the links to the results pages (html).

Note that there seem to be some errors in the database that crept in while i was scrubbing data, fixing classes, etc.

2016

Sept 17th Joint SCCA-PCA AX:

This was a joint event with SCCA, operated primarily by SCCA.  I thought they did a great job operationally, and also of welcoming PCA drivers. Thanks to Perry, Mark, Jeff and all the gang at SCCA for a great day.

I have posted the results for Porsche classes only.  Please note i had to take an export form the SCCA setup, so this is not organized as usual.  It appears that what we have here ( correct me if I’m wrong) are SCCA paxes for porsche classes. You will note that they are far LOWER than our own. What i hope is that they are still correct on a relative basis – e.g.: for comparing SS1 with P2 or I1.  Results below say its “not crazy” but there are some inversions I find suspect.

August 21st AX:

Back at the Meadowlands, and with a large contingent of our friends from SCCA practicing for the nationals.

IMPORTANT NOTES:

  1. You cannot compare SCCA and PCA paxes.  They are different scales and simply do not compare.
  2. Once the rain set in many of you noticed that displayed times seemed wrong.  I can see from my own data that there were between 2-3 runs that were not recorded .  Like my (baloney) 39 second run 🙂  So recognize that your last 1-2 runs may not be included.

June 19th AX:

Our first event in many years at the Edison NJExpo Center – not a great lot, but i had fun adn hoep you all did too.  We also learned how to manage traffic on the tight course and by afternoon got a 60% increase in runs/hour – so next timer we’ll shoot for 10+ runs total.

July 23rd is the AX school — very limited space, lots of runs and instruction, sign up early!

July 12th 2015, Autocross:

Please note that SCCA and PCA Paxes cannot be compared.  The only valid (and imprecise) way to compare them is to use the SCCA paxes for the class your Porsche would have run in at an SCCA event.

Four documents are available after each Autocross:

      • The PAX data for Porsche only. PAXes are “handicaps” which allow drivers of slower and older cars to compare their times to those of faster and newer cars. They are not precise – some tracks favor some cars.  SCCA PAXes cannot be compared to PCA PAXes.  A PAX time is simply your raw time (e.g.: 52 seconds) multiplied by the PAX adjustment for your car (e.g.: 0.9) so that 52.0 x 0.9 = 46.8 seconds.  A faster car might have a PAX of 0.95.
      • RAW data – un PAXed times. These are the actual best times without PAX adjustment.
      • Summary – shows rankings by class
      • “FINAL” – all your runs. showing your times, progression, cones, DNFs, etc.

We award 3 trophies in each of the following “super classes”, ordered by PAX:

        • Novice (all), Stock (all), Production (all), Improved/Modified (all) and X (all).
      • We also award two FTDs – One (PAXed for Porsche, one for best overall RAW time)

Here are the results:

Trophy Winners, By Class, by PAX time: (class, name, PAX time)

        • Stock:  1. Grant Lenahan 47.225; 2. Ceyen Birney 47.776; 3. Nick Betegh 48.112
        • Production: 1. Lou Hudyman 47.445; 2. Lee Nieto 47.490; 3. Howard Mintz 47.668
        • Improved/Modified:  1. Rick Newman 48.348; 2. Drew Karpinski 49.187; 3. Kedeer Beg 50.683
        • Novice: 1. Michael Graeff 50.576; 2. David Seligson 50.716; 3. Bart Grochowski 51.490
        • X Class: 1. Evan Schickel 42.113; 2. Max Wolfinger 42.345; 3. Rich Wayne 42.497
      • FTDs:  Overall, RAW: Rick Newman (48.348 RAW)
Porsche, PAXed: Grant Lenahan (52.216 RAW, 47.225 PAX)

Congratulations!  Sorry this took so long, but i did revision after revision due to bad run classing, run data etc. Please make sure that you class accurately ( or use “FUN!”) and that instructor runs etc are noted BEFORE you take the run.

Autocross School (Aug 16th):

Revised data, with a few knows errors corrected. Note that there are quite a few “instructor runs” that distort standings, so don’t take those too seriously.  This data is useful to understand how your times improved.
